The ore staff of the Kiwallians.

Not a lot is said or recorded of the Kiwallians. They are an alien race humanoid is appearance and similar in physiology but widely different from us on their way of life and culture. The planet they live in is as queer and fascinating. What we have know of a typical Kiwallian is that we often see one with a staff around 3 to 4 feet in height.

The Kiwallians reach a maximum height of 4 to 6 feet and are often hunched over the staff firmly fixed in their hands. Their arms also seem suited to only hold the staff and nothing else. We have observed that a Kiwallian is extremely dependent on their ore staff that when it breaks during a foraging stint the being appeared to show signs of pain and distress even when the ore staff is physiologically not connected to them. They seem to develop a bond so strong with their ore staff that it seems to become a part of their being. Kiwallians who are not social beings tend to live a life of solitude and are seen to be asexual since not a lot is know about how they are born or conceived. What is amusing to note however is that not all Kiwallians have an ore staff a select few appear to grow to a towering height of 8 to 10 feet standing proud with full mobility. One would think they are a different species altogether given they hunt for food unlike the foraging majority.

When looking into why a very few Kiwallians have no staff, we started looking into the origins of their ore staff. This staff is a product of the planet’s chaotic geology. Frequently the planet spits out a metal ore looking like a staff about 3 inches in diameter and often around 3 feet in length. The staff appears shiny when exposed to the surface but after coming into contact with the planets atmosphere it starts to darken at a steady pace. We have observed some completely blackened ores occasionally in places where Kiwallians could not reach or travel. The blackened staff is unlike the one the Kiwallians carry as they are brittle and easily break without any significant effort. The ore on a close examination seems to be a compound consisting of a few element, which might explains why they glimmer and reflect the nearest star’s light. One of the element in the ore is similar to tungsten which is strong and can endure a myriad of abuse but the ore seems to have minor impurities that causes it to fracture and blacken over a period of time. The impurities as far as we know seems to have no real use but tend to decay and destroy anything they attach themselves to. We have also noticed that the ore staff decays at a significant lower rate at the hands of a Kiwallian when compared to ones left unattended.

Upon the above facts explorers seem to hypothesize that the Kiwallians find this ore staff at a very early stage due to its abundance and they find its physical allure impossible to fend off. After having this ore staff in their possession they start to change their entire life around it, protecting it and growing in ways that put the staff at the center of their survival even though it has no inherent value. When looking at the few Kiwallians without one we find that the staff seems to appear trivial to them. They have come to realize the fact that they do not need it for their survival and that having one seems causes significant problems. One can find these erect Kiwallians using them like stones at times throwing them around for what seems like fun.
